How to Make Lemon Essential Oil at Home – Recipe

To make 100% Pure lemon essential oil, the best methods are cold pressed and steam distillation. So, it is hard to make 100% pure oil at home. You will need to purchase it from stores. But you can make absolute (Not essential oil, but essence). There are two main methods to extract oil:

1. Extracting Oils with Oil

Grate the lemon peel over a bowl. Fill a small glass bottle halfway with the grated zest and the rest of the bottle with cold pressed olive oil. Set aside for 24 to 48 hours, but shake the bottle a few times per day. Pour the liquid through a strainer using a coffee filter or cotton cloth and gently pressing the zest to release more oils.

You can make this oil more strong. To get more strength, continue to repeat this process with the fresh lemon peel or zest.

2. Extracting Oil with Alcohol

In this method, you should need undenatured ethyl alcohol as a solvent and the process is same as oil method. You can separate the oil from alcohol by using a freezing method. Place the container in the freezer and you will see the oil on top of the surface (It will not freeze).

For Hair/Dandruff

Lemon oil is good for normal and oily hair. It prevents dandruff, scalp dryness and killing lice. You can directly apply the few drops of oil to your scalp or use it in a natural shampoo or hair conditioner. If you have a nasty dandruff condition, Here is an essential oil treatment:

Mix 5 drops lemon oil, 2 drops lavender oil, and 2 drops peppermint oil. Dilute it down to a 50/50 ratio with a carrier oil and massage gently into scalp.

For Detox/Detoxification of Liver

1.For Oily Skin Conditions (ACNE/PIMPLES/CYSTS)

Lemon Oil helps in acne or cysts problems. It shrinks or constricts the skin when applied topically. Which makes it perfect for oily skin. It acts stronger than a toner that reduces the extra amount of sebum from the skin. Acne relates to an increased production of sebum due to hormonal factors in teenagers. Extra sebum can lead to a blockage of the sebaceous gland duct that results in acne or other inflammations of the skin by the bacteria.

Remedy: Mix ½ cup of water + ½ cup of witch hazel + 35 drops of lemon oil and gently apply with cotton wool.

If you are using this oil as a skin toner, Mix a few drops of lemon essential oil in a tablespoon of carrier oil, such as jojoba or sweet almond oil, and apply with cotton wool or mix lemon oil with baking soda and honey. Apply this face wash for 20 minutes will improve skin complexion and make your skin soft.

2. Blackhead Eraser

You can erase your blackheads (a type of acne vulgaris) with therapeutic grade Lemon essential oil. Mix 2 or 3 drops of essential oil with 1 tsp. of baking soda and water to create a paste. Apply this paste on blackheads for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse off.

For High Blood Pressure

Lemon oil can make a big difference in your blood pressure level by acting as antioxidants to relieve anxiety while improving mental clarity. Also, it helps the circulatory system. For high blood pressure, add 3 to 4 drops of lemon oil to every glass of water you drink throughout the day. Another method is to message 6 drops of lemon oil with sweet almond oil. It will absorb through your skin or you can take 10-20 drops in a warm bath at bedtime.

For high blood pressure, you can also try other essential oils like Lavender, Ylang Ylang and Sweet Marjoram.

For Spider Veins/Angioectasias

Common Cold: Lemon 3 drops + Eucalyptus 1 drop + Tea Tree 2 drops + Thyme 2 drops. Use the mixture in hot bath and inhale deeply. For better results, take Lemon 1 drop + Eucalyptus 2 drops + Rosemary 3 drops + 1 tsp. Vegetable oil and rub on chest, neck, forehead and nose.

Dry Cough: Mix Lemon 2 drops + Eucalyptus 3 drops + 2 tsp. of Honey. Take 1 tsp. of this in a glass of warm water and sip slowly.

Sore Throat: Lemon 2 drops + Lavender 1 drop + 2 tsp. of Honey. Mix it into a glass of water and sip slowly.

In Pregnancy: Lemon essential oil helps combat morning sickness. It helps in varicose veins cause by pregnancy. Do not use in the first 3 months of pregnancy. Before using, please consult your physician.
